This Week’s Holmes ll Excavation / Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway … Bret Holmes will pilot Chassis No. 206 in the VizCom 200 at MIS. This Bret Holmes Racing-prepared Chevrolet is the same machine Holmes raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway last month where he started sixth and finished eighth.

Irish Hills Notes … Holmes has two previous starts at the two-mile oval. Holmes finished fourth at the speedway in 2017. He was on track for another solid finish in 2018 when mechanical issues plagued the team and ended their day early.

To the Point … Holmes is currently second in the ARCA Menards Series driver championship point standings. The 22-year-old driver trails the leader by 30 points heading into this week’s race at Michigan International Speedway.

Mr. Consistency …  With eight races complete so far this season, Holmes has finished inside the top 10 in all but two events, Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. Of those top-10 finishes, Holmes has two top-five results and accumulated an 8.8 average starting position, coupled with a 9.1 average finishing position. Altogether, he has completed 99.7 percent of the laps contested.

The Big 5-0 … This week’s 100-lap event marks Holmes’ 50th ARCA Menards Series start. In his 49 starts in the series, Holmes has amassed eight top-five and 32 top-10 finishes. The Munford, Ala., native has recorded an average starting position of 10.4 and an average finishing position of 10.9.

Review Mirror: Pocono Raceway … Holmes started the 80-lap main event from the 10th position and reported handling issues during the opening circuits around the 2.5-mile track. The 22-year-old driver visited pit road under caution on lap 29 for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Holmes returned to the racing surface in the fourth spot. On lap 60, Holmes informed the No. 23 team of a tight-handling condition that was developing during the long green-flag run. As teams began making their green-flag pit stops, crew chief Shane Huffman called the young driver to pit road on lap 67 for right-side tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Holmes maintained his track position and crossed the finish line in the fifth position.

Tune In Alert … Coverage of this week’s VizCom 200 at Michigan International Speedway will be televised live on Friday, June 7, beginning at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on FOX Sports 1. Live timing and scoring will also be available at ARCARacing.com

BRET HOLMES QUOTES:
Michigan International Speedway has fairly fresh asphalt and high speeds. Thoughts on heading there this week?
“Honestly, I feel really good about race at Michigan (International Speedway). Shane (Huffman, crew chief) has done well there in the past, both in the ARCA Menards Series and in trucks. Last year, we couldn’t finish the race because of a mechanical issue but finished fourth the year before that. You’re always on the gas there, you’re not using any brake. You’re barely lifting at all. I think we’re going to be solid there judging off how we ran at Charlotte (Motor Speedway) a couple of weeks ago. Our intermediate program is strong, so I feel like we have a chance at bringing home a good finish this weekend.”

Is Michigan still a primarily inside groove racetrack?
“In these ARCA Menards Series cars, we’re a little bit middle to the lower side of the racetrack, not all the way at the bottom just because of the seams and the differences in the banking. It definitely works two lanes right there around the middle of the track.”
